Have Patience: Your Body Will Change
Progress Takes Time
Hi there. I just want to talk about when you're starting to change your body. So when you're starting to make changes, you're starting to un-tighten those tight areas and strengthen up those weak areas.
You're starting to make changes with your diet and you're starting to make little waves ahead. Don't expect it all to happen overnight. It's a process.
Consistency is Key
And as long as you're consistent, things will continue to improve. And I had a client start just a few weeks ago, and she has just been doing homework at home to untighten her hips. So to unlock her hips so that and strengthen up her glutes so she can stand up onto steps and she can stand up on her garden bed.
And she's able to do all these things. It's not perfect, but it's a long way from where she started just a few weeks ago. So I always say to people, if you're consistent, you'll start to see results in a very short period of time, probably three to four weeks.
You'll start to see small changes. You'll start to make note that you're not as sore or you're able to move a bit more freely or move a tiny bit better.
Trust the Process
So I would say to you, just allow time because time, as long as you're consistent, will make changes.
And trust in the process. So things don't happen straight away, but they do improve. So just make sure you keep track of small improvements.
And if you have a setback, that's okay. Just get back on track and keep going.
Joan's Story: From Pain to Progress
Joan was one of my ladies who was 76 when she came to me, had severe osteoarthritis.
She was going to bed in pain every night and couldn't go to see her kids in Melbourne because she was in such pain and she didn't want to have to take the lift to get into the plane. And so she just didn't make those trips to Melbourne. She started strength training three times a week.
We started to stretch out, but strengthen. And in a very short period of time, or probably she'd come into me on two sticks, but she'd thrown them away within a couple of weeks. And within probably four or five weeks, she was going to bed with minimal pain.
She went back to her rheumatologist who said, wow, I can feel muscles there I couldn't feel before. So being able to get that stronger body can sometimes have those results quite quickly. But Joan was always an inspiration to me because I'd see then what she was doing and helping other people in their gardens and helping to do all sorts of things that she couldn't have done before.
She was banging in nails into her deck and just being somebody who was really active that she couldn't have done before because she was in so much pain.
Aim for Progress not Perfection
So what do we do about it? How do we stay patient? Well, I would say just be consistent. So just keep making one small step at a time and improving on that one and then go to the next step.
I would say, just keep moving forward and you don't need to be perfect. Nothing needs to be perfect. So do what you can, what your body will allow you to do.
Aim for progress, but not for perfection. So we're not going to be perfect. Probably I'm never going to be perfect in this lifetime, but just aim for progress.
That one little step, tick that off, celebrate it and move on to the next one. And if you have an off day or week, it's okay. Then just on the next week, move forward.
Start Where You Are
There's no right time to start getting your body into that place where you want it to be. Just start now and continue to move forward step by step. Hope that helps some of you.
I'll see you next time.
