Start Your Strength Transformation With Just One Change: Readable Version

Addressing Feelings of Inability

So I want to talk to those people that feel like you can never make changes in your life, that it's just too hard, and particularly in health. So if you're feeling like you can barely move at the moment, you can barely walk, but you want to get fit and healthy, I would just say take one step at a time. It could be that you start to make one small change with your diet.

Start with Small, Sustainable Steps

So maybe every day you're introducing some greens to your diet, and every day you start just going for a walk. So if you're a couch sitter, you maybe just start by going for a walk. It's never ever too late.

Client Story: Realising It's Not Too Late

I get clients that come to me and kind of knew that they should have come five years before, but finally they make the decision that they're in too much pain, things aren't working, and they've had enough. So I trained a client yesterday who's 62, same age as me, and she could not get down and up off the floor well. She could get down but struggle to get up.

She's not doing steps well. There's a whole heap of things that she struggled with. She said, I'm really embarrassed, Sheree, I'm really embarrassed. Like, how did I get to this place? You know, we get to that place when things become hard, our body doesn't work for us, and we kind of feel like it's too hard. And then when it's in the too hard basket and we don't do anything about it, it doesn't get better. It keeps getting worse.

And so she got to a point where she was in discomfort. She was struggling because she wants to go traveling. And she just knew that that body that she's got at the moment is not where she wants to stay. So she came to see me. And just a very simple getting down and up off the floor taught her some different ways. So, you know, it's not the end.

Seek the Right Professional Guidance

If you are feeling like your body doesn't work for you anymore, there's ways and things you can do. And at the very minimum for most people is just to practice what they find hard to do. Now, if there's acute pain with that, I would get myself along to an exercise physiologist is what I would do.

And I would go see them about getting my body retrained in whatever things that I've been doing that have been wrong. Like, we use the wrong muscles sometimes to get our body to work. And so I would see an exercise physiologist, not a physiotherapist. I think some physiotherapists are great. But otherwise, an exercise physiologist is better trained to better get your body to work the way it should. And then when you've dealt with whatever's restricting you, you can start to move better.

One Step at a Time: Commitment to Progress

So yeah, I would just say don't give up. Don't give up. Keep going. Take one small step at a time. One change with your diet each week. Adding things you know, taking away things that you know are not going to serve you.

And I can't speak because I've had chocolate today. So good. But yeah, just making one small change at a time. Start to move. Start to do some push-ups on the wall. Start to do some sit-stands from the chair. And just get yourself started somewhere. But don't give up.
