How to Replace Your Sugar Fix with Protein: Readable Version
A Lifelong Love of Sugar
Are you somebody like me who just loves sugar? I spent years and years being unable to curb it if I saw it and I still struggle when I do see it. But what I do these days is that I try and put alternatives in its place.
Hitting Rock Bottom
I've had times in my life where I've been a paediatric nurse on a ward and we've had thousands of easter eggs donated to paediatric ward but only one or two kids that could eat and so I remember one night shift there in Queensland.
I sat there and I ate about 75, yes about those size eggs and they were hollow but I had about 75 of them. Probably kept going until I felt sick. Then I remember being on a paediatric ward in Perth and eating just candy one after the other after the other and I just couldn't stop because it tasted so good.
Protein and Fat Alternatives
So what I do these days is I try and fill up on protein and fats. Protein and fats, good fats that are good for me like avocado, seeds, nuts all of those sort of things have high protein and give me good fats as well. So if I know that I'm at risk of wanting to buy chocolate when I go to the shop I will make a point of trying to have as much as I can some good food inside me.
Stock Your Kitchen with Healthy Snacks
We all know that but particularly having protein, high quality protein and good fats inside my body so when I head to the shop I'm not, I'm not going to go straight for the chocolate because I know I've got good stuff at home. I make a beautiful chocolate slice as well and that just gives me everything I need. Gave some to my clients today and they went oh my goodness this is so so good.
If I had this at home in my fridge I wouldn't need to get chocolate. Exactly! So make sure that you've got what you need at home that you know that you can turn to and it's natural stuff. So mine have got seeds and nuts and all really good things in there and I've also always got protein powder on the side and great yogurt in my fridge.
Quick, High Protein Snack
So if all else fails and I'm in a rush I need something really quickly I'll just mix in some of my protein powder with my great yogurt suddenly I've got a great snack.
Small Tweaks for Lasting Change
So if you're a sugar addict like I used to be see if you can just change some little tweaks that your body still feels like it's having yummy things nice sweet things but you're not actually having sugar that's not going to add any value to your life. See how you go.
