Create Strength Transformation Habits That Last - Women 50+: Readable Version
Habits Define Excellence
So you know that we are, we are the culmination of what we repeatedly do day in, day out. So excellence then is not an act, but a habit.
Little Things, Big Results
So those habits that we form, those habits that we do day in, day out regarding our diet, regarding our strength training, regarding all of that make us who we are in the end. Not one big thing. It's what we do day in, day out.
So those little things done over time add up to big results.
Overcoming the "I Need to Be Fitter" Fallacy
Many people don't think that they can start because they just think that they need more time, more energy, more fitness. You would be amazed at how many ladies come into me in the end for training their body and go, I should have started five years ago, but I thought I needed to become a bit fitter before I started strength training.
Starting Right Where You Are
No, that's a fallacy. You can start right where you're at, right with small weights and plan to, as you go on and on and on, just increase those weights. So little acts, little habits, just making it a part of your life.
A Non-Negotiable Routine
It's a non-negotiable. And hey, if you go away on a holiday for a couple of weeks, go away on a holiday. I don't ever think about working out my body on holiday. I'm really there to have fun, go swimming wherever I am. But then when I come back, that is my routine again, and I get back into the routine. So just start, start small.
Momentum Builds Ease
Small things over time add up to big things. And the more you show up, the easier it gets. It's just one of those things.
The Five-Minute "Just Start" Rule
And I think that my husband said it well on a number of occasions. I've said, I just don't feel like a workout today, but I really need to, because I haven't done one for a while. And he will tell me, just go, just start, just do five or 10 minutes. Tell yourself five or 10 minutes. It is amazing how after five or 10 minutes, you had those endorphins going and you want to complete it. So you actually feel good. And even if I did stop then, you know what? Those five or 10 minutes is better than nothing at all.
Track and Celebrate Progress
So one good way to be on track and feel good about yourself is track your progress. Look back at what you did. I will often see people that come to see me and they have a little weight. When they first come in, I might hand them a four kilo weight, and they're like, whoa, that's big. And yet a few months down the track, they're handling 10 kilo weights with ease.
Real-Life Strength Wins
And a number of clients will tell me, I have a number of clients that have horses they have to feed. And it is a funny thing when they say that they used to struggle with the hay bales, throwing them out. And now it's like a feather or they can chuck two at one time. And that's what this is all about. It's starting small. It's no big thing.
Reward Yourself for Growth
You don't have to get there all in the first go. And you know what? Think about saying to yourself, being proud of yourself. Give yourself a reward. Give yourself a pat on the back when you've done something you couldn't do before.
Believe in Your Potential
And it's so true that Henry Ford said, whether you think you can or you think you can't, you're right. So you may as well believe that you can, believe that things are gonna get better and that you can progress. Make moves to do it. And you know what? You'll get there. You certainly will.
Self-Affirmation and Encouragement
And be telling yourself, now say, hey, you awesome woman. You, look at you go. You're strong, you're bold, you're courageous. And look at what you've done today. You've picked up that weight and you've walked a little way down the road or wherever it may be. You can be proud of yourself for wherever you are, whatever you're doing.
Making Habit a Way of Life
So let yourself know, write it down in your journal and go, well done, proud, awesome woman. Let's go, let's keep going where we're going. And that helps as well. So I hope that just getting some of these little ideas into you, just knowing that it's not just a one-off, but it's a progression. And we'll just keep going because it's what we do. It's a part of our life.
